Apr 17, 2020 (newstodate): With the fourth all-cargo flight on April 19 to Arlanda, a fifth on April 20, also to Arlanda, and the next on April 21, 2020, to Billund, the Danish transport and logistics provider Leman has established an air bridge between China and Europe.
As a novelty, Leman is thus offering consolidated all-cargo flights from Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong to bring much-needed anti-coronavirus personal protection gear from Chinese manufacturers into Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo as well other European countries.
The flight operations are performed under a charter contract currently comprising 8-10 rotations with the Russian budget carrier Nordwind's Boeing 777 freighters.
-We have been appalled by excessively high cargo rates by a number of airlines during the current global health crisis where market demands outstrips cargo uplift capacity, and this has spurred the development of an offer for cargo consolidations on own charter flights, says Kenneth Werther, Leman SVP and Group COO Air & Sea.
-In addition to the air transportation, Leman staff at offices in China assist our customers in sourcing products from certified Chinese producers to avoid what has been repeatedly seen in the market, where products delivered turn out to be not conforming to order specifications and standards set by health authorities.
-We actively advise customers not to use Chinese producers that are not on the positive list, assisting them instead to select producers that are certified in order to make sure that imported products are up to standards. And we positively reject to transport shipments from non-certified Chinese companies.
-This may be a lengthy process, but it makes sense in the long run. And the aim is to rebuild and secure reliable supply chains in a challenging environment.
-To ease the handling at congested Chinese airports, we build the operation on 12 hours loading time plus an extra 12-hours buffer as delays may occur in Chinese customs handling. If unexpected snags appear, we have the time needed to secure the timely departure with all shipments approved by the authorities - a clear advantage for our customers, compared to back-to-back operations where the aircraft will leave on time, with or without the full load of cargo.
-Shipments of anti-virus protection gear are low on weight, but bulky in dimensions. We have managed to operate our first Boeing 777F flights with between 240 cubic metres in the worst case and 330 cubic metres at the top. Our pricing is based on 250-270 cubic metres of cargo, belly and passenger cabin included, securing a fair and indeed competitive price for our customers and fair profits for the company, says Mr Werther.
