Apr 23, 2020 (newstodate): The bankruptcy of Finnish and Swedish subsidiaries of the Irish regional carrier CityJet may provide a new business case for Estonia's capacity provider Xfly, earlier trading as Regional Jet.
So far, CityJet has been operating a fleet of 23 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft for SAS from bases at Helsinki and Stockholm.
Another provider to SAS from August 2017 is Xfly that landed a six-year contract with SAS in March 2017 covering operations from August 2017 with four ATR72-600 aircraft as a replacement for the Scandinavian carrier's earlier contract with Jet Time that pulled out of the turboprop market as part of its turn-around process.
The cooperation with SAS was next expanded in June 2019 as Regional Jet signed a long-term contract with SAS for operating eight ATR72-600 aircraft and two CRJ900 aircraft based in Denmark and Sweden.
Regional Jet started its operations in early 2016 and currently operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, including 12 CRJ700/900s and seven ATR72-600.
With the SAS contracts and the introduction of Embraer E195 aircraft for other long-term projects in Europe, Xfly's fleet will reach close to 30 aircraft by the end of 2020.
