Apr 01, 2020 (newstodate): While down in scheduled passenger traffic, the three airports managed by Lithuanian Airport Plc are seeing a steady increase in cargo movements.
The growth is driven by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and increasing demand for special cargo operations to bring medical supplies and protection gear into the region.
During the first 29 days of March, 1,432 tonnes of air cargo were handled at the three airports Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, corresponding to an increase by eight percent over the same period last year.
On average, Vilnius Airport is handling seven daily cargo flights, while Kaunas Airport is handling six daily cargo flights.
Located on the Baltic coast, Palanga Airport handles ad-hoc cargo and military cargo flights.
