Apr 29, 2020 (newstodate): Driving the growth in cargo at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is the transport and logistics provider Hoptrans - and volumes are now rising.
-Starting from this week, import cargo volumes managed by Hoptrans will increase to 1,200 cubic meters per week, which is almost double-up, says Jan Hyttel, Hoptrans Member of the Board.
-Our traffic builds on cargo flights from China's Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport in the country's central Henan province where our partners take full control of all operations on behalf of Hoptrans.
-We have decided on specifically this airport to secure space and control of operations, avoiding congested airports like not least Shanghai that now serves as the hub for most large western operators, generating a growing pressure on quality and infrastructure.
-Driving the traffic are shipments of e-commerce goods, electronics and medical equipment, and we charter flights from three east European carriers to secure back-up in operations, with aircraft types spanning from Airbus A320, A330 and up to Boeing 777F.
-From Kanuas Airport we provide trucking of goods on a network spanning most of Europe, and volumes are indeed increasing, expected to rise to 2,000 cubic meters as the Boeing 777F is introduced as well, says Mr Hyttel.
