Apr 03, 2020 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic confirms that it has decided to divest of its fleet of turboprop aircraft once the scheduled traffic reopens.
-There is a plan not to continue flying the turboprop aircraft Bombardier Q400 fleet. It means that we would bring forward the decision to simplify our operations with a single type fleet Airbus A220.
-Right now we are in discussions to negotiate with the Q400 lessor, confirms Alise Briede, airBaltic Head of Corporate Communication, in a mail to newstodate.
With the first delivery in November 2009, airBaltic built a fleet of 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, of which the first eight was an outright purchase from the manufacturer.
Ownership of the first aircraft was taken over by the Danish aircraft leasing company Nordic Aviation Capital in December 2010 through a sale-lease back transaction, and the remaining four aircraft were leased from NAC from the start.
