Mar 04, 2020 (newstodate): The Icelandic ACMI carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic is indeed taking the first steps into its future with a twin-engined aircraft fleet.
According to Icelandic media, the carrier has inked an agreement with GECAS for long-term lease of five Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
The media claimed that the delivery of the first Airbus A330-200 aircraft will take place already in May 2020, with the first Boeing 777 aircraft to follow in June - which may not, however, hold true.
-It is correct that Air Atlanta Icelandic is working on Airbus 330 and Boeing 777 induction from GECAS, but no exact dates can be confirmed at the moment, says Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta CEO, in a mail to newstodate.
In January 2020, the company entrusted the Dutch recruitment agency Confair with the task of sourcing a batch of Boeing 777 first officers to be based in Saudi Arabia.
Already operating 33 Boeing 777 aircraft, Saudia is a steady costumer at Air Atlanta Icelandic that currently operates seven Boeing 747-400 aircraft for the carrier, and Air Atlanta has now secured a new three-years aircraft wet-lease contract with Saudia.
It remains to be seen, however, with airline customer will take in the coming new Airbus A330 aircraft.
While Air Atlanta Icelandic is a staunch operator of Boeing 747 aircraft, the ACMI provider also operates one Airbus A340-400 for Air Madagascar since 2013.
The Airbus A340-300 aircraft replaced an Air France Airbus A340-300 aircraft earlier serving with Air Madagascar on the route between Antananarivo and Paris.
Air Madagascar is on EU's airline blacklist and cannot therefore itself operate the crucial route to France.
