Mar 06, 2020 (newstodate): The Danish carrier Great Dane Airlines is set to grow its aircraft fleet in 2020.
The airline is preparing to take delivery of its 4th Embraer 190LR aircraft, earlier operated by the UK carrier flybe, that has now left the paint shop prior to handover at Aalborg Airport.
But rumours in the market that a 5th aircraft for Great Dane Airlines was already approaching Danish registers are not confirmed by the airline.
-We will be operating four aircraft in the coming summer schedule and will indeed be expanding the fleet further - but a fifth aircraft will not be on the agenda in 2020, says Thomas Hugo Moller, Great Dane Airlines CEO.
The carrier launched business with one Embraer 195LR aircraft delivered on May 16, 2019, adding a second Embraer 195LR on June 24, 2019 - and a third aircraft on November 27, 2019.
All aircraft are acquired by a dedicated leasing company set up by the carrier's investor, Eigil B. Christensen.
Based at Aalborg Airport, Great Dane Airlines has its focus on charter and ACMI services after shelving its original business plan comprising scheduled operations to destinations including Dublin, Edinburgh and Nice.
Mr Moller is not overly anxious for the carrier's situation in today's rather turbulent environment.
-Our seasonal contracts with tour operators contain clauses for abrogation on both sides according to specified changes in market conditions. But even with the current uncertainties over the coronavirus spread, people still want to travel, and we have no indications from any of our customers that the programs scheduled are due to be changed, says Mr Moller.
One option for Great Dane Airlines in case charter operations are reined in is to expand in the ad-hoc market that currently accounts for some 20 percent of the airline's total production.
