Mar 12, 2020 (newstodate): Norway's total export of fresh salmon increased slightly in week 10, ending March 8, 2020.
A total of 14,912 tonnes of salmon was exported, an increase by 3.6 percent, y-o-y, while volumes through the first 10 weeks of this year are still lagging behind by 3.5 percent.
The Chinese market did not contribute to the positive growth in week 10, dipping 50.5 percent to 149 tonnes, and down 50 percent to 2,341 tonnes during the first 10 weeks.
Volumes exported to Hong Kong dropped 25.6 percent to 195 tonnes in week 10, and were down 28 percent to 2,034 tonnes in weeks 1-10.
Also crucial is the export to South Korea that was down 17 percent in week 10 to 307 tonnes, as well as volumes to Japan that however were relatively unchanged, only 1.7 percent down in week 10, to 286 tonnes.
Among the cargo handling companies at Oslo Airport is Gardermoen Perishables Center that handles the cargo on flights by Qatar, Emirates and Korean Cargo.
-So far, we have not been overly affected by the coronavirus, seeing a decline around 15 percent in volumes primarily due to the shortage of capacity on European and Asian flights, says Torgil Staalberg, GPC Managing Director.
