Mar 30, 2020 (newstodate): Norwegian has played a pivotal role in the sustained growth in passenger volumes at Finland's Helsinki Airport.
In the current schedule, Norwegian originally planned for direct non-stop flights from Helsinki to 21 international destinations as well as flights on a domestic route network in Finland.
Norwegian has been the 2nd largest airline operating at Helsinki Airport, aggregating some 15 percent of the total traffic, and trailing only after Finnair that accounts for some 65 percent.
This is changing now due to the general downturn in the industry and not least Norwegian's cash-strapped fight for life.
The carrier has now announced a full-stop to all flights on its four domestic routes in Finland as well as all international flights to and from Helsinki, in effect ceasing all operations to and in Finland as of now and at least till the end of April 2020.
Norwegian entered the Finnish market with flights from April 2010 to Helsinki from Stockholm and Oslo, bolstering its presence in the Finnish market by setting up an operational base at Helsinki Airport from spring 2011.
