Mar 18, 2020 (newstodate): The threat of disseminating the coronavirus in Greenland has forced the country's government to suspend all flights by Air Greenland.
The flight suspension takes effect from March 20 and will remain in force for two weeks.
The flight ban comprises not only the domestic routes, but also the Transatlantic flights between Greenland and Denmark that are crucial to the supply of commodities to the country.
While the scheduled domestic air services will thus stop, emergency evacuations from the vast country's hamlets to hospitals at Nuuk will still be provided.
Much of the domestic maritime passenger traffic is provided by Disko Line that is also to suspend services from March 2020.
