Mar 30, 2020 (newstodate): Finnair has now joined the race for finding venues to capitalizing on its passenger aircraft fleet left idle in times of flight suspensions.
On Saturday, March 28, Finnair thus performed its first all-cargo operation with an Airbus A350-900 passenger aircraft from Helsinki to Seoul and back to Finland.
-During this exceptional time, we have been trying to find solutions with our cargo customers in order to continue operations despite the number of flights reduced to some 10 percent of our normal network, the carrier says on its LinkedIn page.
Finnair thus follows shortly after its Nordic competitor, SAS that also performed its first all-cargo Airbus A350 passenger aircraft flight between Copenhagen and Chicago only on March 26, 2020.
Finnair ceased its own MD-11 freighter traffic from the turn of the year 2014/15, contracting instead DHL to provide cargo uplift from Brussels into its hub at Helsinki Airport - but closing down this traffic also from September 2018.
