Mar 05, 2020 (newstodate): The impact of the coronavirus situation has again forced Finnair to adjust its Asian services.
The carrier has already suspended all flights to Guangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing Capital, Beijing Daxing, Shanghai, Xian in Mainland China until April 30, 2020, and in April Finnair will operate the route to Hong Kong with only one daily instead of the normal two daily flights.
Now the decision has been made to cancel two weekly rotations on Finnair's routes from Helsinki to Osaka, operating only 10 instead of earlier 12 weekly rotations during the period March 29 – October 24, 2020.
Services to South Korea will also be cut as Finnair is cancelling its daily flights to Seoul from March 9 to April 16, 2020.
Furthermore, Finnair earlier announced the launch of flights between Helsinki and Busan on March 31, 2020 with three weekly rotations with Airbus A350 aircraft during the Summer 2020 program - but the opening of this new route to South Korea has now been pushed back to July 1, 2020.
Alongside the impact on passenger volumes where Asian lanes generated 17 percent of all passengers in 2019, the drastic reduction in the Asian traffic will hit hard at the airline's cargo performance as well.
In 2019, cargo carried on the airline's Asian lanes accounted for 72 percent of the total cargo volumes.
