Mar 03, 2020 (newstodate): Under its new brand-name Xfly, Estonia's Regional Jet is formulating a new role in the aviation industry.
Seeing no room for small commercial airlines, based on own hard-earned experience from the earlier unsuccessful business model as provider of connectivity at Tallinn Airport knocked-out by competition from Latvia's airBaltic, Xfly is instead zooming in its focus on the ACMI market.
Rather than seeking ad-hoc business as a short-term provider of aircraft capacity, Xfly will position itself as a long-term strategic provider of capacity for European commercial airlines as evinced by today's contracts with airlines SAS and LOT, but seeking also new customers in this segment.
In this role, Xfly wants to become an integral part of its commercial airline principals' future long-term plans, and is willing to add aircraft capacity based on customer requirements.
Xfly is now manifesting its dedication to the new business plan by the decision to increase the fleet with a new aircraft type, signing a lease contract for seven Embraer 190/195 aircraft to be delivered over the coming six months, with four of these allocated to be operating for LOT.
By the end of this year, Xfly's fleet will comprise seven Embraer 190/195, 12 Bombardier CRJ900, and nine ATR72-600 aircraft.
