Mar 05, 2020 (newstodate): Notwithstanding the general downward spiralling in the aviation industry and the pressure from the spread of coronavirus, one airline keeps planning for fleet expansion: Aeroflot.
The Russian carrier continues to grow its fleet and will take in no less than 55 aircraft in 2020, including 33 western-built and 22 Russian-made Superjet 100 aircraft.
The airlines in the Aeroflot Group will thus receive 11 Airbus А350-900, nine А320 Family aircraft, seven Boeing 737, two Boeing 777, and two DHC-8 and DHC-6 aircraft, while phasing out nine Airbus A330, two А320 and two DHC-8 aircraft.
By the end of 2020, the Aeroflot Group will be operating a total of 401 aircraft, compared to 359 by the end of last year.
Given this massive build-up of capacity, the country's other airlines will be facing increased competition from the state-owned Russian flag carrier.
