Mar 19, 2020 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport saw its passenger volumes down by 47 percent in week 11 - and expects a sustained drop in traffic. But cargo operations are still largely unaffected.
-Billund Airport handles some 42 scheduled cargo operations per week by Turkish Cargo as well as integrators TNT/FedEx, DHL, UPS, and time:matters, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport VP Cargo.
-To this should be added a varying number of ad-hoc freighter operations, humanitarian relief operations, perishables transports and of course general cargo operations.
-As is the case everywhere, we have of course seen over-all cargo volumes somewhat down the last few weeks, but we may be less exposed than many other airports in having the bulk of our shipments in the freighter, integrator and trucked cargo segments, rather than in passenger aircraft belly holds that are now dwindling as passenger flights decline.
-So far we have received no cancellations of our scheduled freighter operations, and with 130 staff at disposal 24/7, we are open to all requests, says Mr Ditlevsen.
