Mar 17, 2020 (newstodate): As airlines cut schedules, routes and ground their fleets, needs are rising for aircraft parking space.
In Scandinavia, SAS is cutting some 50 percent of its flights and starting to park the aircraft pending better times to return.
Copenhagen Airport has now closed the runway 04L/22R to provide space for aircraft parking, also aiming at adding the parking capacity of taxiway Alpha in the coming days.
From now on, all take-offs and landings will thus use runway 22L/04R.
-So far, only some three-four SAS aircraft have been parked on the runway, and we expect to handle the parking of up to 50 aircraft over the coming days, says Kenni Leth, Copenhagen Airport Head of Press Relations.
Parking of one mid-size aircraft like an Airbus A320 requires about 1,345 sq m of space, while parking of an A330 aircraft requires twice that space.
