Mar 27, 2020 (newstodate): Like many other airlines, Finnair is now also considering offering aircraft capacity for all-cargo operations with partners.
According to Finnish media reports, Finnair is in contact with cargo customers to ascertain if some of its wide-body long haul aircraft could be converted to all-cargo purposes.
-About ninety percent of Finnair's passenger flights have been cancelled. It leaves a big void in cargo traffic, as Finnair under normal circumstances carries around 800 tonnes of cargo every day, Mikko Tainio, Finnair Cargo CEO says in an interview.
In Finnair's case, the focus would presumably be on providing all-cargo flights to Asian destinations that weigh heavily on its total cargo statistics in normal times.
In 2019, cargo carried on the airline's Asian lanes thus accounted for 72 percent of the total cargo volumes.
Besides customers in the Finnish market, Norwegian exporters of seafood to China and other Asian markets would be keen to see Finnair's cargo capacity returning.
