Feb 25, 2020 (newstodate): The Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Co, SCAC, has ceased to exist as a separate company.
SCAC has been downgraded to become instead a division of Irkut Corporation, and as a subsidiary of Irkut responsible for SCAC’s only product, the Superjet 100.
Besides being an element in the ongoing reconstruction of Russia's aviation industry, the downgrading of SCAC also reflects a growing dissatisfaction with the business case for the Superjet 100 that has failed manifestly in attracting orders apart from politically-driven orders from Russian airlines, notably Aeroflot.
The Superjet 100 has indeed had little success in Europe.
On November 26, 2018, Adria Airways inked an MoU with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company for long term lease of 15 aircraft type SuperJet 100, with deliveries to start from 2019 already - but plans were aborted amid mutual allegations between the parties.
Prior to that, Brussels Airlines returned six Superjet 100 aircraft leased from CityJet that had originally ordered a total of 15 Superjet 100, with options on 16 more - but only seven were delivered and soon left the carrier.
