Feb 12, 2020 (newstodate): Quite tight-lipped on its statistics, the Latvian carrier airBaltic has now at least provided a figure on its cargo volumes in 2019.
In 2019, the carrier thus lifted a total of 14,800 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 21 percent, y-o-y, claimed to be the fastest growth of the company over the last decade even though the overall air cargo volumes in Europe decreased
No further details are revealed, barring an insight into the breakdown into import/export/transfer volumes.
Looking back into the records, airBaltic carried 9,020 tonnes of cargo in 2010, and 8,610 tonnes in 2011.
A growth by 21 percent in 2019 is, however, not immediately recognizable as a "record" as to the fastest growth on airBaltic's history.
In 2007, the growth was 24.3 percent 3,629 tonnes, rising to 33 percent in 2009 reaching 7,925 tonnes - and surpassed by a growth in 2005 by 108 percent, y-o-y!
The figures are, of course, basically incomparable as the size and composition of aircraft fleet, number of routes and destinations as well as frequencies have developed dramatically over the years.
AirBaltic introduced its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft on scheduled flights from December 14, 2016.
Today, the carrier operates a fleet centred on 22 Airbus A220-300 aircraft - set to grow to 26 units before the end of 2020 - with capacity for lifting between one and 1.5 tonnes of cargo depending on loads and routes.
