Feb 06, 2020 (newstodate): Kyrgyzstan's government is zooming in on a new model to attract foreign investments to its airports.
The proposal is to implement a public-private partnership, PPP, comprising all 11 airports in the country but mainly focussed on the country's Manas Airport.
-We must improve the infrastructure of the airport, increase service level, improve equipment, supply airports, bring the level of services provided at the airport to international standards, says Daniyar Abdyldayev, Director of the Public-Private Partnership Center under the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan, in an interview with Kyrgyz media.
Keen to stress that this does not mean outright privatization, the Director says that the time frame for a coming PPP model tender may be up to 30 years.
Already in 2017, the Turkish construction and airport management company TAV aired an appetite for obtaining contracts for management of Kyrgyz airports.
By the start of this year, the Kyrgyz President signed a new law on amendments to the country’s air code aiming at developing its civil aviation, boosting passenger and cargo air traffic, and developing the connectivity for Kyrgyz citizens and foreign tourists.
Today, the country is only connected to nine markets with direct non-stop flights.
