Feb 13, 2020 (newstodate): Figures on Norway's export of salmon to China now show the full effect from the Coronavirus outbreak in China.
In week 6, ending Sunday 9, 2020, the volume of salmon exports to China was down 98 percent to a mere 39 tonnes, compared to 533 tonnes in week 6, 2019, and during the first six weeks of this year the Chinese-bound export was down 31 percent to 1,903 tonnes, compared to 2,749 tonnes in 2019.
Salmon exports to Hong Kong were also down by 66 percent to only 98 tonnes in week 6, and by 23 percent to 1,294 tonnes during the first six months of this year
It should be noted, though, that a drop in volumes would normally be seen in connection with the Chinese New Year festival that started early this year, from January 27, 2020.
Another Chinese-speaking market, Singapore imported only 99 tonnes of Norwegian salmon in week 6, against 162 tonnes in 2019, while exports to the Republic of China on Taiwan increased by 40 percent, y-o-y, to 206 tonnes in week 6.
In total, the Norwegian exports of salmon to the world's market place fell 13 percent, y-o-y, to 15,505 tonnes in week 6, and by five percent to 89,812 tonnes during the first six weeks of this year,
