Feb 26, 2020 (newstodate): At Finland's Helsinki Airport, new partnerships in cargo handling over the last years have repeatedly changed the picture.
Until March 2018, Finnair and Swissport, online at Helsinki Airport since December 1, 2011, were alone in providing cargo handling services at the airport.
Entering Helsinki Airport in 2014 through the acquisition of Servisair Finland that had been providing cargo terminal services for decades originally trading as Nurminen Ground Services, Aviator Finland started offering only ground handling services, while ASR, launching business from March 3, 2014, provided only trucked cargo handling at its off-airport cargo terminal.
From March 1, 2018, Aviator Finland added cargo handling services by cooperating with ASR Cargo Center to offer airline customers joint on-airport cargo handling at Helsinki through one-stop ground- and cargo handling services.
Next, Finnair outsourced the operation of its new COOL Cargo Terminal at Helsinki Airport to Swissport from June 1, 2019, as Swissport split its cargo operations between Finnair COOL Terminal Operations serving Finnair Cargo exclusively, and Swissport Cargo Operations serving other airline customers.
Similar to the cooperation with Aviator, ASR Cargo Center in January 2020 signed a cooperation agreement with Finavia's ground handling company Airpro, allowing Airpro to expand into cargo handling at Helsinki Airport.
Airpro can thus now provide its airline customers with a full service package including cargo services in addition to existing ground and passenger handling services, and ASR Cargo Terminal gains access to a new potential airline customer portfolio.
Finally, Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group acquired Aviator in a deal signed on February 14, 2020, bringing Lithuanian capital into the cargo handling business at Helsinki Airport through the current cooperation with ASR cargo.
