Feb 24, 2020 (newstodate): Finland's Helsinki Airport opened 2020 with a slight drop in cargo volumes.
In January 2020, the airport thus handled a total of 16,630 tonnes of cargo and mail, domestic and international volumes combined.
This was down 0.5 percent, y-o-y, primarily due to a drop by 0.3 percent in international volumes, notably mail that lost 15.2 percent while international cargo was slightly up by 0.4 percent.
The decline in January 2020 comes after an unprecedented strong performance in 2019 where Helsinki Airport handled a total of 229,532 tonnes of cargo in 2019 - a strong increase by 13.4 percent, y-o-y.
Of the total volume, 219,817 tonnes were international cargo that secured the over-all cargo growth by an increase by 14 percent, while international mail volumes also increased by 3.5 percent to 8,015 tonnes.
