Feb 10, 2020 (newstodate): Low-cost flights are building up in Armenia in 2020.
Two LCCs have now announced plans for new routes to Yerevan - Wizz Air and Ryanair.
Both carriers are thus to launch flights between Armenia and Cyprus, with Wizz Air to offer two weekly rotations on the route served seasonally from June 1, 2020, while Ryanair will also start operations on the route between Paphos, on Cyprus, from June 2020, with two weekly rotations, but on a year-round basis.
The coming new routes will be the first direct non-stop connections between Armenia and Cyprus.
First low-cost carrier to enter the Armenian market was Ryanair that started operations to Yerevan and Gyumri from Milan, Rome, Berlin and Memmingen from January 2020, to be followed by Wizz Air starting from April 2020 with flights from Vilnius and Vienna to Yerevan.
Armenia introduced an open skies policy in 2013 and has since seen foreign carriers entering the market.
