Feb 27, 2020 (newstodate): SmartLynx Malta has taken a significant step forward in its short life, attaining IOSA certification confirming that its operational management systems comply with international standards.
With IOSA certification, the airline also gains access to a new market of ACMI contracts with larger carriers that has the IOSA status as a precondition for business partnerships.
SmartLynx Malta obtained its Maltese AOC on April 19, 2019, and landed its Canadian Foreign Air Operator Certificate in October, allowing it to expand into the North American markets with charter and ACMI services.
SmartLynx Airlines has already obtained IOSA certification of its Latvian and Estonian AOCs.
Member of the Avia Solutions Group, SmartLynx Airlines in 2019 expanded its fleet to 24 aircraft including 16 Airbus A320 aircraft, with one A320 operating for SmartLynx Malta and eight for SmartLynx Airlines Estonia, as well as eight Airbus A321.
Bent on further expansion, SmartLynx will add another 10 aircraft in 2020, growing to a total of 34 aircraft before the end of this year.
