Dec 01, 2020 (newstodate): As the UK is poised to leave the EU by the turn of this year, the British International Fright Association rejoices at the signing of a new air services agreement with the USA.
A key element in the new agreement is the granting of 7th Freedom rights for US/UK all-cargo services, allowing airlines to perform all-cargo services between the United Kingdom, USA and a third country, without requiring a flight back to the point of origin.
This was not included in the existing air services agreement between the USA and the EU, covering also the UK.
With the UK's Brexit transition period ending by the turn of the year, the countries had to negotiate a separate pact that would encompass traffic between the UK and the US.
The agreement will enter into full legal force after completion of both sides' procedures for an international agreement, and the signatories plan to apply the agreement from January 1, 2021.
