Dec 08, 2020 (newstodate): From vision to reality: Seafood exporters in Northern Norway will have their own direct freighter to Asia starting before Christmas!
With the first flight on December 14, 2020, Qatar Airways Cargo will fly in from Liege to Evenes Airport near Narvik with a Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to lift 50 tonnes of seafood to Doha for transfer on Qatar Airways flights to destinations in Asia.
The service will be offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, complementing Qatar Airways passenger flights and freighter services at Oslo Airport.
-It has been a long night's hike towards day, but we are happy to finally reach this milestone, says Stig Wintner, Perishable Center Nord CEO, and a prime mover behind the initiative since 2018 as general manager of the Norwegian company Pole Position Logistics.
-We actually expected to break the news only on Friday December 11, but received the final clearance already on Monday 7, allowing us to go public with the news.
-Behind the new freighter service is Perishable Center Nord, established in 2020 with main shareholders including Nordlaks Opdrett, Ellingsen Seafood, Salfra and Astafjord Export, and this provides a firm backing in the industry in the form of commitments to the freighter.
-During the first period, much effort will be devoted to polishing routines and procedures; all equipment and infrastructure is in place and boosted by the airline's GSSA NordicGSA sales efforts will focus on securing loads to consolidate the new service, also looking deeper into other export commodities.
-We are now close to the slack Christmas season, but so far market response seems convincing, and if the service proves a success we will even be able to add a fourth frequency on the route, says Mr Winther.
