Dec 16, 2020 (newstodate): New in the Swedish market with flights from Stockholm Arlanda Airport is the German carrier Sundair.
Starting from December 11, 2020, the carrier is offering flights to Beirut, in Lebanon, with one weekly rotation using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Sundair will so far be alone in serving the route while earlier attempts proved short-lived, including the Lebanese charter carrier Wings of Lebanon with two weekly rotations starting from July 2016.
Also from June 2016, the German carrier Germania launched flights on the route between Stockholm and Beirut, offering two weekly rotations on the route with Airbus A319 aircraft.
The Swedish carrier Viking Airlines launched scheduled direct flights from Stockholm Arlanda to Beirut from March 16, 2006, but repercussions among Muslims over the publication of certain caricature drawings forced the carrier to suspend the opening of the route, and the carrier was later declared bankrupt in February 2011.
The Swedish carrier Nordic Aviation also introduced flights from Stockholm to Beirut from June 2009, but these were only operated on an ad-hoc basis and soon suspended.
Earlier, SAS tested the route through its experimental low-cost subsidiary Snowflake from 2003, but these flights were again suspended from the start of the winter schedule 2005/2006.
