Dec 17, 2020 (newstodate): Pending approval by the EU Commission, Traficom, Finland's Transport and Communications Agency, is soon to open a tender for PSO services on five domestic routes.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, Finnair has reined in on its domestic air services, currently operating domestic flights only between Helsinki and four airports - Rovaniemi, Oulu, Kuopio, Vaasa and Mariehamn.
Representatives from five regions addressed ministers and members of Finland's parliament airing their dissatisfaction with the current lack of connections hurting exporters, business enterprises and provincial societies at large.
In response, the five domestic routes now to be put on tender will connect Helsinki with Joensuu, Jyvaskyla, Kokkola-Pietarsaari, Kemi-Tornio and Kajaani airports during the period April 1 - December 31, 2021.
The coming tender will be open for airlines with the adequate background and equipment from all EU countries.
Probably not fully unconnected to these developments, one potential provider of regional air services in Finland, Estonia's Nordica Group has already been in the market from September 2020 for recruiting Finnish cabin crew members to work for the Group's capacity provider, Xfly.
Nordica is otherwise not known to operate any routes relating to Finland, today performing only operations for SAS in Sweden and Norway, as well as operating on two PSO-routes in Sweden out of Stockholm Arlanda.
