Dec 01, 2020 (newstodate): Cargo through Sweden's Gothenburg Airport seems to be doing rather well in 2020 despite the Covid-19 crisis.
During the first 10 months of this year, the airport has handled a total of 16,573 tonnes of cargo, according to Swedavia's statistics that do not, unfortunately, allow for a direct y-o-y comparison as statistical methods have been changed.
But at least according to last year's reporting, the airport handled 15, 046 tonnes during January-October 2019.
Boosting air cargo volumes at Gothenburg Airport, that otherwise relies heavily on belly cargo operations now suspended, is Qatar Airways starting from December 12, 2018, with five weekly passenger flights with Boeing 787-8 aircraft on the route between Doha Hamad International Airport and Gothenburg.
The traffic was suspended by the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020, but Qatar Airways resumed services at Gothenburg from July 29, 2020, with three weekly rotations on the route from Doha with Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Serving the air cargo market, Qatar Airways is now operating three weekly all-cargo flights at Gothenburg Airport including two all-cargo passenger aircraft and one Boeing 777F rotations.
