Nov 11, 2020 (newstodate): The much-heralded entry by Wizz Air on a new domestic network of routes in Norway from November 2020 has been dampened somewhat.
Starting from November 5, Wizz Air planned to offer services on three new domestic routes in Norway with flights from Oslo to three destinations: Bergen and Tromso, served with four daily rotations, and Trondheim served two times daily, respectively, with Airbus A320/A321 aircraft.
The ambitions have been lowered somewhat, however, due to low market demand in times of the coronavirus as well as union protests against the airline's policy of recruiting non-Norwegian staff on Norwegian contracts.
As a result, Wizz Air is currently operating only one daily flight on each route.
Phase 2 of Wizz Air's plan for Norwegian domestic flights was to lift off from December 17, 2020, as the carrier would open Trondheim as a new base with two Airbus A321neo aircraft to successively offer flights to Stavanger, Bodo and Tromso, from Oslo to Alesund and Bodo, and between Tromso, Bodo and Stavanger.
These further routes will now open with a reduced flights schedule during December 17-30, 2020.
