Nov 30, 2020 (newstodate): Norway could be a perfect example of the ideal market for e-trade, stretching 1,752 km from North to South, with the bulk of the land north of the arctic circle, and with the world's fourth-largest per-capita income.
And indeed, the volume of the country's e-trade is booming; already in 2016, two-thirds of Norwegians made online purchases during an average month, and of these 40 percent made cross-border purchases, especially from sellers in the US, UK, Sweden and China.
With logistics as the main obstacle to speedy deliveries that would require some 30 hours on the road from south to north, air transport has a key role to play.
Taking up this challenge now is Wideroe Cargo that announces the launch of same/next day deliveries to any destinations in Norway from the start of 2021, capitalizing on its domestic route network covering some 40 destinations.
The new service will be rolled out with an initial focus on the regions north of Trondheim that also generate the highest volumes of e-trade transactions, and cooperation will be established with local partners in the transport and logistics business to widen the area of coverage from each point served by Wideroe.
While serving local communities with new levels of e-trade services, Wideroe also expects to see a rise in cargo volumes compensating for the shortfall of passengers in the current environment marked by the Covid-19 outbreak.
In addition to three Embraer E190-E2, Wideroe operates a fleet of 32 Bombardier Dash 8 100/200/300 as its smallest aircraft, ideally suited for flights on the carrier's network of smaller airfields in northern Norway
