Nov 02, 2020 (newstodate): Losing its single largest customer Finnair after March 31, 2021, Swissport Finland will have to downsize its staff.
Today employing some 1,400 people, Swissport Finland opened talks already in August 2020 with unions over reductions in workforce comprising up to 700 staff should it fail to win a renewal of the handling contract with Finnair - which is now a fact.
Swissport Finland's other contract with Finnair comprising operating Finnair's Cool Terminal at Helsinki Airport will, however, remain unchanged.
-This is a separate contract between Finnair and Swissport Finland and will not be affected, says Tero Lampen, Swissport Finland Commercial Director.
-Our cargo operations are split between Finnair COOL Terminal Operations serving Finnair Cargo exclusively, and Swissport Cargo Services handling other airline customers, says Mr Lampen.
Since April 19, 2018, Swissport Cargo Services has been operating at two premises at Finland's Helsinki Airport, with the second location in part of the former Finnair Cargo terminal, next to the ASR Cargo Center.
The first Swissport Cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport has been dedicated to exports, while the second facility provides handling of import shipments.
The customer portfolio of Swissport Finland Cargo includes Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Cargo, Qatar Airways, AF/KLM, SAS Cargo, Cargolux, Singapore Airlines Cargo and Emirates - with the new DANX four weekly freighter operations since October 19, 2020, as its latest addition to the portfolio.
