Nov 09, 2020 (newstodate): According to media in Cabo Verde, the Icelandic/Cabo Verdian JV, Cabo Verde Airlines may soon land a clearance on the outstanding issues between the parties.
The media quotes Erlendur Svavarsson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CV Airlines, that the two shareholders, the government and Loftleidir Cabo Verde, are close to an agreement on the future of CV Airlines.
The airline that has been grounded since March 2020 due to the coronavirus will, however, have to adjust its business model with a focus on reducing the volume of flights as well as the route network served.
Mr Svavarson also denies that the three Boeing 757-200 aircraft stored in the USA were not transferred to get them outside the reach of the Cabo Verdian state as earlier suspected, but sent for maintenance that could not be provided on the islands.
Plans for Loftleidir Cabo Verde to take over the next tranche of 39 of the 49 percent still held by the Cabo Verde state were aborted in April 2020 due to the uncertainties around the airline's future in the current coronavirus situation - and a solution is still pending.
