Nov 03, 2020 (newstodate): While turbulence is still marking the situation for Norwegian seafood exports to China, its potentially single largest market, South Korea is showing positive trends in 2020.
While the Chinese market thus dipped 49 percent, y-o-y, in week 43, and volumes were down 34 percent in weeks 1-43, 2020, the South Korean market was up eight percent in week 43, and up another seven percent so far into 2020.
With a total of 18,920 tonnes in weeks 1-43, South Korea thus overtook volumes to China, 13, 371 tonnes in the same period; and Norway is now South Korea's fourth-largest exporter of seafood supplying the country.
According to the Norwegian Seafood Council, Norwegian salmon has especially attracted the taste buds of young South Korean women aged 20-34 years, boding well for Norway's future export potentials to a growing and stable market.
