Nov 06, 2020 (newstodate): Largest airport in the Baltic region counting cargo volumes, Riga Airport is now taking new steps towards growing its position.
Riga Airport has thus announced an international tender to attract an investor/operator for the construction and operation of a new multi-functional air cargo complex.
The Airport offers investors an opportunity to acquire building rights for 30 years to a land plot allowing for the construction of up to 9,000 sq m of cargo facilities immediately adjoining a new cargo-dedicated apron equipped with the underground fuel-hydrant system and all necessary utilities.
Bidders in the tender must be air cargo companies with at least three years of continuous experience in the air cargo handling business in the last five years, ensuring at least 5,000 tonnes of air cargo turnover per year.
The airport plans that the total annual cargo handling capacity of RIX Cargo City will exceed 60,000 tonnes, allowing Riga Airport to double the turnover of serviced cargo in the coming years.
Currently, seven cargo carriers Atlas Air, Atran, Eleron and RAF Avia as well as courier companies Fedex, UPS and DHL are regular operators at Riga Airport where volumes reached 27,200 tonnes in 2019, accounting for over 50 percent of the total cargo turnover in the Baltic States.
Proposals for the tender should be submitted to the Airport by 14 January 2021.
