Nov 19, 2020 (newstodate): The Icelandic LCC-project Play seems to be taking steps towards launch of services.
One sign of life is the approval of the carrier's applications for slots at the airport of London Stansted, London Gatwick and Dublin.
According to PLAY's original and ambitious strategy by the end of 2019, among the airline's first destinations from Keflavik would be London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Alicante and Tenerife, adding flights later in 2020 to four destinations in North America, with options including Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Toronto.
Now, a more cautious opening is expected including daily services from Keflavik to London and Dublin starting from H1, 2021.
The core group behind the project earlier planned that flights would commence in December 2019, starting out with two Airbus A321 aircraft, growing to six aircraft in 2020, and to 10 aircraft within the first three years of operation.
So far, however, Play has till to obtain its AOC, still pending.
