Nov 06, 2020 (newstodate): Dull Covid-19 times call for new thinking and even a glimpse of good humor - needed not least in today's aviation business.
One such bid may be the announcement on social media platforms of a new airline: MOM Air, to be presented at a press conference on November 11, 2020.
With HQs on Iceland, MOM Air plans to offer flights from Iceland to destinations in the USA and Europe, backed by domestic and foreign investors.
Purporting to be a new version of a low-cost carrier, all passenger amenities and services will be optional and based on outright payments.
The booking engine will open from November 9, 2020, with first flights to lift off on March 1, 2021.
Apart from this, no further details are yet available.
Iceland has often been the base for innovative aviation thinking in aviation.
This time suspicions are, however, that "MOM Air" is just a pun on another dubious airline venture - WOW Air marketed with lofty ambitions as the US company USAerospace Associates LLC owned and headed by Ms Ballarin announced its acquisition of the WOW Air brand to bring back WOW Air in the air.
Initially based on a US AOC, later to be supplemented by an Icelandic AOC, ambitions were to start low-cost flights between Keflavik and Washington already in October 2019, initially with a fleet of two aircraft and planning to grow to six aircraft by summer 2020 - finally landing at some 10-12 aircraft.
So far, only the vision has lifted off...
