Nov 05, 2020 (newstodate): Stakeholders in Norway's seafood exports have had until October 30, 2020, to respond to Avinor's call for views on plans for a new large seafood terminal at Oslo Airport.
As one of three existing seafood terminals at Oslo Airport, Oslo Seafood & Cargo Centre AS provides cargo terminal handling and cargo ramp handling for airlines including CAL Cargo Airlines, Silk Way West Airlines, Suparna Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Thai Airways, Norwegian and many others.
-We have no objections to Avinor's plans for a new seafood terminal at the airport, but as the market is now we do not operate at full capacity and cannot know when things return to normal, says Roy Egil Skredderberget, OSCC CEO.
-The question remains if there is really a need for a new terminal at all. We for instance have invested in new vacuum-lifters for handling of seafood shipments, increasing our capacity significantly.
-We would rather point to the need for a neutral "cool hotel" open to all operators, allowing us to free space at our terminals' cool areas where processed ULDs are stored awaiting their onward transportation to the tarmac, blocking space and optimization of the handling processes.
-With a "cool hotel", the handling capacity of our existing terminals would be greatly expanded, probably rendering the construction of a new large seafood terminal at Oslo Airport redundant.
-The concept has been discussed within the industry for years but always stranding on the issue of financing. Maybe Avinor should consider this as an element in the overall infrastructure serving the country's important seafood export segment, and perform a feasibility study of this.
-We are not against Avinor's vision for a new large seafood handling terminal. But we believe the construction of a "cool hotel" would solve many problems by enhancing the flow through the existing terminals and boost their efficiency, says Mr Skredderberget.
