Nov 23, 2020 (newstodate): If everything at long last goes according to plans, Icelandair will see its Boeing 737 MAX fleet in commercial service in Spring 2021.
As the American FAA has now cleared the troubled Boeing 737 MAX for entry into service after20 months of grounding, the issue will be handled by the European EASA that is expected to complete its safety auditing of the aircraft by January.
After that, European airlines will be free to enter their Boeing 737 AX aircraft into service, and Icelandair is expected to use its MAX fleet from the coming summer 2021 schedule.
Icelandair's fleet will comprise between six and nine Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 9, with three deliveries from April 2021 adding to the existing fleet of six already delivered, as well as four Boeing 767-300 and 17 Boeing 757-200/300 aircraft.
