Nov 09, 2020 (newstodate): As of today, the airspace between Greenland and Iceland has been closed for all commercial passenger air traffic.
Behind the closure is Greenland's government that is taking the precautionary step in an effort to combat the entry of Coronavirus into the country.
Air Greenland has thus now suspended for an indefinite period its weekly Dash-8 rotation between Nuuk and Keflavik that has seen a decline in market demand over the months in 2020; and also .
Heeding the call, Iceland's Air Connect has also now suspended its weekly flight to Nuuk, and already earlier this year Atlantic Airways suspended its flights between Iceland and the Faroe Islands until the end of the year.
Behind the latest move are Greenland's efforts to control the incoming traffic by allowing only one route into the country - Air Greenland's flights from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq where effective Covid-19 control can be enforced at both ends of the line.
