Nov 16, 2020 (newstodate): The acquisition by KrasAir of two ex-Swedish ATR 72-500 aircraft will play a key role in the development of the airline's regional services.
Formerly operated by Braathens Regional and owned by the Swedish aircraft lessor Erik Thun AB, the two aircraft with improved fuel efficiency will replace the carrier's Soviet-built AN-24 and AN-26 aircraft and enable the KrasAir to raise the quality of services within the region as well as expanding the airline's range of flights from its base at Krasnoyarsk.
Under an LoI, KrasAir originally intended to buy three ATR 72-500 aircraft from the Braathens Regional stock, but scaled down to two as the coronavirus struck.
The spread of the virus also delayed the delivery of the aircraft, initially planned to take place already this summer.
Plans remain, however, to add a third aircraft in the near future, pending a financial solution to the issue.
