Oct 21, 2020 (newstodate): If everything falls into place, Lithuania will be able to welcome two international airlines in 2021.
Two international carriers are planning a move to the Lithuanian market to offer ACMI services - one yet undisclosed, while the other is the South African ACMI airline Global Airways, today operating a fleet of seven Airbus A320 and three Airbus A340 aircraft based at Jo'burg.
Already a few years ago, Global Airways aired interest in Lithuania by construction of an aircraft maintenance center at Kaunas Airport; the project, however, never materialized.
-Both AOC applications were received in March 2020 during the pandemic period, confirms Agne Mazeikyte, Spokesperson for Transporto Kompetenciju Agentura.
-Predicting when the process will be completed is quite difficult as certification can take six to nine months, depending on the circumstances; and during COVID-19 times, the process can take even longer.
Global Airways is already represented in Vilnius, Lithuania, by Global Airways Lithuania, managed by Bruno Kaspar, CEO.
