Oct 05, 2020 (newstodate): The Danish air force base at Aalborg has a unique guest these days: a Russian TU-154M-LK-1 aircraft.
The aircraft will perform a series of observation flights over Denmark starting from today and until October 9, 2020.
The flights are estimated to total some 5,600 km allowing the Russian observers to monitor 12,000 sq km of Danish territory for military installations.
On board the flights are also Danish specialists to control the use of the monitoring equipment on the aircraft.
The Open Skies Treaty, signed in March 1992 in Helsinki, Finland, promotes openness and transparency in military activities through reciprocal, unarmed observation flights, giving each signatory the right to gather information about the military forces and activities of other signatories.
