Oct 05, 2020 (newstodate): The second of the two remaining Airbus A220-300 aircraft to join the fleet of airBaltic this year is now in the air.
The aircraft poised to become the carrier's 24th aircraft of the type took off on its first of a series of test flights on September 29, 2020, and will probably be delivered by the end of this month.
In August 2020, airBaltic and Airbus signed an agreement on a revised Airbus A220-300 delivery schedule for the remaining 28 aircraft by then on firm orders.
Under the agreement, airBaltic would take delivery of the last of the remaining 28 Airbus A220-300 in this batch by early 2024, earlier slated for 2023.
In the fleet are now 23 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with so far three new aircraft delivered in 2020.
airBaltic has however not revealed details of the plans for delivery of the remaining aircraft on firm orders.
Since May 2020, airBaltic operates all of its flights with a single aircraft type – Airbus A220-300, having retired all 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, leased from Nordic Aviation Capital under a contract expiring in 2023, while the parties are reportedly negotiating an earlier redelivery scheme.
