Oct 16, 2020 (newstodate): As visions and ambitions faded when the sour mix of financial issues and Covid-19 hit the carrier, Norwegian is poised to divest of most of its fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft.
Now the carrier's single largest shareholder, Aercap is taking back two Boeing 787-9 aircraft that will instead be placed on a new lease contract with the Italian airline Neos Air that already operates four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
In the fleet of Norwegian are now 37 Boeing 787 aircraft, 11 of which are owned and thus a crucial element in the carrier's assets, while the remainder are leased from companies including AerCap, BOC Aviation, MG Aviation, and DP Aircraft Ireland.
Expectations are that out of these 37 aircraft, Norwegian will divest of between 15 and 17 units, leaving the airline with a strongly reduced fleet to meet the expected pick-up in the demand for passenger flights some years ahead - if it is still in the air by then..
