Oct 14, 2020 (newstodate): Start-ups always face hard headwind to carve a niche in the business - but for a new Armenian airline project the odds are extreme..
Obtaining its AOC in July 2020, FlyArmenia Airlines based at Yerevan plans to launch flights for a start to five destinations in Russia, to be expanded with flights to Damascus, Prague, Marseilles and Tel Aviv with a fleet comprising one Airbus A319, one Boeing 757-200 and one 737-300 aircraft.
However, the current military conflict with Azerbaijan does not exactly support the planning, while the relations with Russia are also vacillating.
Besides, on June 2, 2020, the EU commission published a new updated version of its Air Safety List including a ban on all Armenian carriers after further assessment of the country's weak safety oversight capabilities.
Also, a Common Aviation Area Agreement negotiated and initialed in November 2017 by EU and Armenia is yet to be ratified.
