Oct 27, 2020 (newstodate): Starting from December, Iraqi Airways plans to resume flights to destinations in the EU after a prolonged Covid-19 lock down.
On the list of destinations with flights from Baghdad is Copenhagen with a weekly rotation; the German market will see four weekly rotations, and London will see one weekly rotation.
All flights will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft on a wet-lease contract with the Slovak airline Air Explore.
Iraqi Airways has been on the EU Air Safety Black List since 2015, barring it from own operations into the EU while remaining free to operate flights with aircraft leased from EU certified airlines.
On July 16, 2015, EASA revoked its Third Country Operator Authorization to Iraqi Airways, required for airlines to operate within EU airspace.
Until then, Iraqi Airways had been operating flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil in Iraq as well as flights between Copenhagen Airport and Baghdad and Erbil.
