Oct 16, 2020 (newstodate): Air Atlanta Icelandic has made a strategic decision to set up a new subsidiary in Malta.
The company is now taking steps to establish an AOC in Malta, and Air Atlanta Europe is planned to launch operations in 2021.
The strategic move by Air Atlanta Icelandic aims at strengthening the company’s position in the ACMI and charter market with improved market reach and access in an increasingly competitive post-Covid-19 ACMI environment.
-Competitiveness is going to be key once we get out of the current market conditions that Covid-19 has inflicted upon us all. Air Atlanta is an international carrier, connecting continents, despite being somewhat limited when it comes to both traffic rights and other international treaties that give EU-domiciled airlines certain operating advantages over us. So the formation in Malta is a logical step to ensure that we can continue to compete on equal footing, in an ever increasingly competitive environment, says Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic CEO.
Established in 1986, Air Atlanta Icelandic is among the world's leading wide-body ACMI airlines, currently operating a fleet of nine Boeing 747-400 freighters and six Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft, as well an A340-300.
Until recently, Air Atlanta Icelandic intended to launch both Boeing 777 and A330 passenger operations, currently put on hold pending improved market conditions.
