Oct 08, 2020 (newstodate): Icelandair is capitalizing on the value of its excess aircraft capacity, divesting of three Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The Icelandair Group has reached an agreement regarding sale of three Boeing 757-200 aircraft, with the final documentation expected to be completed in the upcoming weeks.
The three aircraft will be converted to cargo version after transfer to the coming owner.
-The transaction is in accordance with the Company’s plan to gradually phase out the Boeing 757 aircraft in its fleet, the Icelandair Group says in a release.
The sale also confirms the high standard of the three aircraft of which two were manufactured in 1994 and one in 2000 - and still fetching a sales price above book value.
-Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Company has excess aircraft in storage despite the sale of these three aircraft which will be ready to operate when travel restrictions will be lifted and demand for air travel increases again, the release reads.
In 2020, the Icelandair Group's fleet comprises 22 Boeing 757 aircraft, down to 19 in 2021.
